Things got personal between Grant Ellis and the women during the second episode of The Bachelor season 29. The episode included the first set of dates with the women, which allowed Grant to get to know many of his potential partners better. However, his growing relationships with the women also made it more difficult for him to say goodbye to some of them during the episode’s rose ceremony.

Life & Style breaks down the second episode of season 29, including who went on the dates, who Grant gave roses to and who he sent home.

1st One on One Date

The first date of the season was a group date with Beverly Ortega, Sarafiena Watkins, Alli Jo Hinkes, Natalie Phillips, Vicky Nyamuswa, Chloie Costello, Zoe McGrad, Juliana Pasquarosa and Allyshia Gupta.

“It’s time to shoot your shot. Love, Grant,” the date card read, which led the girls to believe they’ll be playing basketball.

Due to the clear clue, the women weren’t surprised when Grant invited them to play basketball with young kids. While many of the women were insecure about their basketball skills, they were all excited to see him interaction with the kids.

Zoe made a bold move when she interrupted the group date to spend one on one time with Grant, which ruffled the feather of the other women.

Once Zoe and Grant returned to the group date, host Jesse Palmer revealed that the women would be divided into two teams to play a game of basketball against each other.

The purple team ultimately won the basketball game. Chloie was named the MVP and was given a letterman jacket from Grant, as well as one of one time with him during the second part of the date. However, it was Zoe that rubbed many of the other women the wrong way by being physical during the game.

When Grant and Chloie enjoyed their alone time, the women confronted Zoe about stealing Grant earlier in the date. While they argued that her actions were disrespectful, Zoe insisted that she did nothing wrong by stealing Grant away.

The drama with Zoe continued when she stole Grant away again to have another one of one conversation, where she admitted that she can be closed off in relationships. Alli Jo eventually put her foot down and stole Grant away so they could talk, though Zoe said in a confessional that she likely wasn’t done with him for the night. Soon after Grant and Alli Jo sat down, Zoe stole Grant again and further enraged the other women.

Alli Jo later confronted Zoe over her stealing Grant away, though Zoe refused to participate in the argument.

The date concluded with Grant giving the group date rose to Natalie, noting that he appreciated how she interacted with the young kids during the date.

1st One on One Date

After she received the first impression rose during week 1, Alexe Godin got to go on the first one on one date of the season. The pair got to explore the Beverly Center after it was closed, and they had the opportunity silly while in the mall’s many stores.

At one point during the date, Grant showed off his musical abilities when he played the piano and sang for Alexe. She called it the “sweetest moment ever,” adding that she’s not “used to dating emotional guys.”

Alexe went on to gush about Grant, noting that she appreciates that he’s romantic and vulnerable.

After Alexe and Grant had a personal conversation about their relationships in their families, he gave her the date rose and they slow danced together in the mall.

2nd Group Date

The second group date of the episode included Rebekah Garrett, Rose Sombke, Parisa Shifteh, Ella Del Rosario, Dina Lupancu, Carolina Quixano, Litia Garr and Bailey Brown. The date began with Mario giving a surprise performance of “Let Me Love You.”

The women were told they had to write an original song to perform as a girl group for Grant, and they got help with dancing from professional choreographer Robin Antin.

Before the girls performed for Grant and an audience, he gave a performance of his own that impressed many of the women.

While some of the girls embraced the challenge of performing, including Bailey, others were more shy during their solos.

After all of the women took turns performing, Grant deemed Carolina the winner and the two shared a dance as Mario performed. During their dance, Carolina straddled Grant and the two made out on stage, which made many of the women uncomfortable.

Following the competition, Grant joined the women for a night together. Grant quickly admitted to Rebekah the “vibe was a little off,” and he admitted that some aspects of the group dates “don’t feel good” for the women. However, she insisted that she wanted Grant to do what he needed in order to find his wife.

After Rebekah relayed her conversation with Grant to the other women, Carolina learned that the other women were uncomfortable with them making out earlier in the date. While she said she understood their concerns, Carolina pointed out that PDA is part of the show’s process. She then said she had to talk to Grant about the situation.

Before Carolina could talk to Grant, he had a personal conversation with Litia. After he told her that she must not hear “No” a lot due to her beauty during the first episode, she confronted him about why the comment was triggering to her. After explaining that she’s fallen in love with people who didn’t want to marry her, the pair bonded over their shared interest in wanting to settle down.

While speaking to Carolina, she expressed her concerns about the women being upset with their behavior earlier in the date. They both insisted that they didn’t regret kissing onstage, Grant asked Carolina to keep him in the loop if any of the women give her problems in the future.

The date concluded with Grant giving Litia the group date rose, and he explained that he can see a future with her.

The Cocktail Party

Before the rose ceremony, Grant told the women that he was “appreciative” that the women were giving the process their all. He then shared his plans to be emotionally available to the women in order to find his wife, who he believed was in the room.

Bailey expressed feeling anxious after she wasn’t able to spend much time with Grant during the episode, and the feelings only escalated before the rose ceremony took place.

The Rose Ceremony

Julianna was the first woman to get a rose during the rose ceremony, and Chloie was the last.

By the end of the ceremony, it was revealed that Allyshia, Ella, Rebekah and Vicky’s journeys to find love with Grant had come to an end.
