He spotted a strange doorknob on the wall as he moved the cabinet aside to repair it. Despite his instincts telling him not to approach, he couldn’t help but pull the handle. It took them a while, but they finally found the perfect place in Houston, Texas. It needed some work, but they were excited! He yelled out, “Lisa,” and Melissa dashed in. She inquired, “What is it?” Jack indicated the safe. Melissa’s pupils dilated. Jack was taken aback by what she did next. She began digging through it, finally finding an old card hidden within. “Can you tell me what that is?” With a puzzled expression, Jack inquired. Melissa replied with a massive smile on her lips, “I’m not sure yet.” “This item has given me quite the restless nights,” she stated as she flashed the card in front of Jack’s eyes. When she flipped the card over, Jack realized what she was talking about. They were getting discouraged when they heard something click. “I found the card while we were doing the main bedroom,” she chirped as the safe’s door slid open. Jack held her back. They couldn’t believe their eyes when they saw what they had done. Stacks of money, a bottle of 1959 whiskey, and worn-out books from the 1960s greeted them. Melissa was about to put her hand into the vault when Jack stopped her. He laughed as he remarked, “Might be boobytrapped.” Melissa took the book first, her brows furrowed in anticipation of what was between its pages. As Melissa studied it, Jack realized that the map wasn’t the only thing marked. He took the book from her, seeing that a few folded pages had their paragraphs underlined in pencil. What was going on? They’d found old photos of a family inside the novel, with quotes from the book that seemingly hinted at a treasure somewhere in the city. Was any of this true, or was one of the house’s previous owners playing a cruel trick on them? They would get to the bottom of this. They also counted the cash inside the safe, finding out they had a staggering eighty thousand dollars in their possession. But there was one problem. Thinking It Through The money left in the safe was too much for someone not to return for it. The details in the novel and the map were also well thought out. What if the young couple used the money and landed themselves in big trouble? Jack decided to share his worry with Melissa. She suggested something that made his lips part.
