Delicious 5-Layer Taco Dip Recipe for Any Occasion
This 5-layer taco dip is perfect for game day, a party appetizer, or a fun dinner while watching a movie with friends. We decided to change up the traditional 7-layer dip. Skipping the olives (I am not a big fan) and lettuce (it gets in the way) and using black beans instead of refried beans.
This 5-layer dip includes yummy black beans seasoned with taco seasoning, light sour cream with lime, and taco seasoning. I have to say this is the world’s best guacamole (recipe available here), spicy salsa, and cheese.
We’re huge football fans and absolutely love it. On the weekends you can always find us cheering for the Cleveland Browns (yes, we never give up hope!), the New England Patriots (we lived in Maine and totally fell in love with the Pats). And, of course, we can’t forget about “The” Ohio State University for college ball (the Big-10 is the best!). We’re also big fans of hockey, college basketball during March Madness, the Olympics, and a bunch of other sports. I even enjoy watching golf! It’s always a blast to come up with a fun game-day dish.
This amazing five-layer taco dip is super tasty and really easy to make. It’s always a hit at our Friday night “Netflix night” gatherings. Plus, you can make the dip ahead of time to save time on game day.
Changes we made to the 5-layer taco dip:
We made some tweaks to the classic 7-layer taco dip to simplify it and make it even more delicious! One major change was using black beans tossed with some seasoning (cumin, garlic, cayenne, and salt) instead of a can of refried beans. We skipped the shredded lettuce because we didn’t have any, and it turns out the 5-layer dip is just as tasty without it and less messy to eat. We also left out the olives – as I’m not a huge fan of olives unless they are in a Martini. Mixing the taco seasoning with the beans and sour cream really added some delicious flavor to the whole dip!
How to make:
For the 5-layer taco dip, we used an 8×8 casserole dish. To start, we used 2 cans of black beans. I prefer to drain the beans and give them a gentle rinse. Then, I toss the beans with ½ lime juice and mix in a teaspoon of each: cumin, garlic, cayenne, and salt to create the first layer.
For the second layer, you’ll need 8 ounces of sour cream. Next, add two tablespoons of taco seasoning and half a lime juice to the sour cream. Mix it all together, and then layer it on top of the black beans.
The next layer is salsa. We always go for our favorite salsa. Of course, we had a spicy hot salsa, but mild salsa is also great in this 5-layer taco dip.
Layer 4 of the 5-layer taco dip is guacamole. We’ve got what I like to call the world’s best guacamole recipe. Click here for the recipe. This layer includes 1 ½ cups of guacamole. You can also buy the guacamole if you want to make this recipe even easier.
The final layer of our awesome 5-layer dip is cheese. We like to use either Cheddar cheese or Colby Jack cheese because they are both so delicious. Just top the guacamole with the cheese, cover it, and pop it in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. This dip tastes even better the next day if you want to make it ahead of time. And if you want to take it up a notch, you can turn it into a 7-layer taco dip by adding some shredded lettuce and olives on top of the cheese.
This dish is perfect with crispy tortilla chips, offering a delightful contrast of textures. If you’re in the mood for something different, try it with bagel chips for a satisfying crunch. Additionally, it complements the flavors beautifully when served with warm and soft flour tortillas. For a lighter option,
ENJOY!!!!!!
