In the coming days or weeks, desires to eat foods that you are not supposed to eat, full of fat and empty calories will come, but these temptations will come less and less until they stop. Until then, anytime you think about eating high-calorie, fatty foods, like candy, sugary desserts, fried foods, or any other foods that are not good for your body, you will hear my voice say “NO”. My voice will be loud, and repetitive, saying “NO” over and over again.
I will say in your mind, “NO. You do not need these foods. You are in control. You can resist the temptations of these fat, empty calories. You do not need them. You are in control”. My voice will continue to say “NO”, loudly, over and over.
The voice will become your own, thinking these words to yourself. You will hear your voice, loudly, saying “NO”, and you will feel confident that you are in control. You will be able to resist the foods because you do not need them. You are in control now.
Eating can be a wonderful experience. You can learn lasting methods to enjoy your food. Using these methods, you can learn to enjoy your meals more than ever, take time to eat, and be satisfied.
Let yourself focus on the food on your plate, nothing else. Television, reading, and conversation will only interrupt your focus. It’s just you and the food. This is your time to savor each bite, as it nourishes your body.
Before you begin, look at the food. Notice the colors, the smells, and how steam rises from hot dishes. Imagine how the texture will feel on your tongue.
When you are ready, try taking small bites from finger foods, only small amounts with your fork or spoon. Feel your focus on the food getting stronger. If your thoughts wander, gently bring your mind back to the food.
Let each taste bud describe the intense flavor. Feel your tongue, cheeks, gums, and teeth as they describe the texture of the food in your mouth as you take only small bites.
Let your focus shift to chewing each bite, chewing, again and again, using your tongue to push it around the food around in your mouth, noticing how the texture changes. Feel how stimulated your whole mouth is, every taste bud, as you enjoy each small portion.
When you are ready to swallow your food, allow your focus to shift to how it feels as it goes down your esophagus, and down into your stomach. Your focus can then shift to your stomach. Let yourself be fully aware of how it feels, and how it is stimulated.
As you slowly eat more small bites of food, let yourself feel the changes in your stomach, how it is beginning to feel fuller.
As you continue to eat, let yourself focus on each bite of food, slowly chewing, slowly swallowing, and feeling fuller. There is no rush here, no reason to hurry. Time is slowing for you, slower, and slower. You have all the time you need to eat this meal, each bite.
Seconds tick slowly by, there is plenty of time. There is so much time that you can focus on your body’s sensations between every bite, enjoying the growing feeling of satisfaction.
Time seems suspended as you slowly continue to nourish your body. It feels as if hours have passed. When you finish your meal, notice that you are fully satisfied and content. You will feel full and comfortable until it is time for your next meal.
