Lily Smith swayed slightly as the train rattled along the tracks, her hand resting gently on her swollen belly. She was heavily pregnant, her due date looming closer with each passing day.
She had opted for train travel because both the bus and airplane rides made her sick. She was on her way home from visiting her mother in Alabama.
It was a full bogey; people were getting adjusted for the long ride. But every seat was occupied, mostly by men absorbed in their newspapers or staring blankly out the window.
