People Share Their Pettiest Moments In Life
Some Simply Don’t Forget
While some people easily forgive and forget, others struggle to let things go. They may find themselves going to the ends of the earth to ensure that whoever wronged them got just what they deserved, not caring how petty it may be.
Here are a few stories from the r/pettyrevenge subreddit. Some of these will have you feeling horribly delighted, so sit back and enjoy.
Job Offers
A close friend of the family with whom I grew up had always belittled me, calling me dumb and the like. Eventually, we drifted apart, but recently we were at the same family event.
His mom mentioned how he had been applying to a bunch of law firms and got rejected from every single one of them. Then, she asked me if I was working. I answered that I was, indeed; as a matter of fact, I was an intern in one of the law firms he had been rejected from.
Did You Put Your Name On It?
A co-worker of mine ate my lunch once because I didn’t have my name on it. One day, I noticed she was saving a lot of boxes, preparing for an upcoming move.
I sliced all her boxes and put them in the recycler. She came to ask me what happened to the boxes, and I said to her, “did they have your name on them?”
Befriending The Mistress
I found out that my partner had been cheating on me. The information came from a mutual friend, who said he had been taking someone who he presented as his “girlfriend” to his grandma’s service. Needless to say, it wasn’t me.
I met with the woman in question, and we both dumped him that very same day. Today, years later, we are still good friends.
Freeloader
My roommate started giving me static over $4.50, even though I drive her to work every morning for free, and even let her borrow my car on a couple of occasions.
I told her that if this was how she wanted it to be, then she was going to have to pay me back for using my car. Quickly, she tried to backpedal, but now she owes me $100.
Ghosted
I’m an international student. I recently reached out to a former classmate who happened to be working at a company I was applying for. I didn’t hear back from him, but another classmate did the same, and I heard she got a job in the company right away. I realized I was being ignored.
3 years later, the classmate who ignored me reached out to me asking for an in at the company I’m working for. Guess who’s getting ignored now?
Taking Justice Into His Own Hands
My nearest train station has bike lockers that follow the “first come, first serve” rule. However, people started locking them with personal locks to try and reserve them.
After I informed the appropriate people in the station staff and no one did anything about it, I bought a bolt cutter and broke the locks of the lockers that were locked but otherwise empty. No one has tried to do it again ever since.
Annoying Cousin
My cousin parked his truck right behind my car on my driveway, which blocked the way for me. He went to Texas unannounced and left the truck there. He didn’t leave his keys or even ask for permission to use my driveway.
So I called a tow truck and had him towed. I texted him about it, and then I turned my phone off. I had fifteen calls from him when I turned it back on.
Highway Drama
We were out driving, and we noticed a car that kept honking at the car in front of it, even though we all were stuck in slow-moving traffic. The car in front stopped, which forced the honker to go around.
Now, the honker was stuck in front, and the car (now behind the honker) started honking at the former honker like there was no tomorrow. It was hilarious to see his face when he realized what had happened.
Endlessly Waiting
I saw a mail courier that was holding up the elevator while I was waiting for it. I decided to take the stairs, but I pressed every button on the way to my floor.
I thought that if he didn’t see a problem with holding the elevator on his way up, then he could spare time to wait on the way down.
Noise
My roommate used to host really noisy parties at our flat. When I asked her to please stop, she promised she would, but she threw a wild party just a few days later. I couldn’t sleep for the whole night.
I decided to wake up early, play music, and do some chores. She woke up really annoyed, but it felt great not letting her sleep and leaving her alone with her hangover.
He Regretted Getting Promoted
I had a coworker who was extremely cocky and always undermining me, trying to get one up on me and such. So I tricked him into taking on promotion at a different store.
I knew that the store would be a disaster, and that’s exactly what happened: it barely broke even. It shut down after just a few months, and he was among the staff.
Coffee Strategy
I had just started working in an office. Being a newcomer, the rest of the employees treated me poorly. They were rude to me, isolated me, and tried their best to make things difficult.
One of my tasks was to buy and make coffee for everyone. I bought de-caf one week and then switched it to extra-strong the week after.
Rude Neighbor
One particularly crude winter, I spent 45 minutes shoveling a parking spot for my wife’s car. We went out for a minute, we came back, and found out our neighbor had taken the spot.
I was so mad I poured water all over his windshield and let it freeze during the night. Watching him scrape ice off his car the next morning was absolutely priceless.
Phone Alarm
Every single morning, my wife presses snooze over and over on her phone alarm instead of just getting up. It ruined my sleep, so I decided to take drastic measures.
I’ve started moving her phone from the nightstand to other rooms and even under the bed, so now she has to get up and shut the alarm off.
“What’s new, Pussycat?”
I was working in the garage and asked my husband if he could bring my phone out to the garage so I could listen to music. I didn’t want to go in because I had paint all over me. He was nice enough to bring my phone out, but as “payment,” he played “What’s new Pussycat.”
Ok, so no big deal, but he put it on repeat. Well, little does he know, I excel at blocking things out, I let that song play for a solid 30 min. He came out to the garage and said, “I CANT TAKE IT ANYMORE,” he picked up my phone and turned it off.
Knee Torture
Let’s set the story: cramped assembly hall, hottest and first day of the year. Therefore, 750ish students are in a stuffy gymnasium. Long story short, I have a bully (6,4’, 210 lbs) who would use his size against me very often (I’m 5,6’, 110 lbs). Until that day, I dreamt of revenge, today was the day where I struck.
It fell perfectly, and he is in the chair behind me, I gradually move my chair back until his legs are practically tucked against his chair. I have never put so much force into keeping my chair so still from his freeing movements, 1 hour later, he is whimpering, and I’m sweating. It sounds too good to be true.
Toxic Workplace
My work environment has been absolute hell for the past year. I let my coworker push all her work onto me. When I tried to get help from my boss, it turned into me being a bully for going to my boss. We got told we could no longer report coworkers to management and the work secrets started piling up from that point on.
Today I just spoke to the CEO of the company and basically unraveled a conspiracy that involved several high-up managers of different departments. I have a job interview tomorrow and will most likely be gone from the work environment before the end of the month, so I’m just going to sit back and watch it all burn down.
Terrible Tenant
My mother has owned this house for 30 years. This house was built in 1841 in Connecticut and still has a lot of the original flooring preserved underneath it. She had this terrible tenant that she just evicted after she harassed my mother for the past 7 years. This person broke everything possible, including the kitchen sink, out of spite.
She trashed the apartment and got evicted, and now she can’t find an apartment and is living in a motel. My mother went around to all the apartment owners, managers, and even the local slum lords with photos of how disgusting this woman left the apartment, and I guess it worked.
Stolen Cutlery
I rented a room from this guy very briefly. When I moved in, he made a huge deal about how previous roommates had stolen some of his “very nice” (completely normal) cutlery and how his towels went missing. That he knows he has X amount of towels, forks, knives, and spoons, and he’d know if I’d taken some. On more than one occasion, he accused me of taking a piece only to find it somewhere, like in his truck.
One day, even after finding the missing item, he decided the living situation wouldn’t work out and kicked me out. I took one towel, fork, spoon, and knife. I also sugared his salt and salted his sugar just enough to make it taste a little off, and smeared honey under his couch to bring ants. Screw you, Jimmy! Enjoy missing one piece from your cutlery and towel sets. And ants. I know it will drive you insane.
Jealousy
I had a roommate that got so jealous that I started dating the guy she liked. She literally climbed into the crawl space under our house and disconnected the cable wires for the whole house so I couldn’t watch TV. It took me over an hour to figure this out.
But I’m just as petty as she is, and I finally figured it out on my own. So I went under there and plugged it back in. Invited my new boyfriend to come over and watch TV and made sure we were watching TV together when she would be coming home from work. Let’s just say this whole scenario repeated every day until we all moved out.
“It’s A Tumor”
Hubby would always say, “It’s a tumor!” when I was pregnant; it was a cute inside joke between the two of us. Jump to me a week overdue, very large, very miserable, and very much over people (who knew me and knew better) asking if was having twins. I ran into an old friend in the grocery store, as we stood chatting, a random woman I didn’t know started rubbing my stomach, asking when I was due.
I looked her in the eye and said, “I’m not pregnant, I have a very large tumor, and they are finally able to remove it next week.” She was shocked and mortified! She stammered out an apology and quickly walked away. My friend thought it was hilarious, and hopefully, that woman learned something about touching strangers without asking.
Obnoxious Bassist
Years ago, I had a downstairs neighbor who would play music loudly. Mostly the bass is what I was hearing. I called serval times to ask him to turn it down. He did for a while, and then he just started saying “no.” I talked to the landlord, who was no help.
One weekend I was going out of town. This was so long ago that we had big speakers. I never listened to loud music and was a very quiet neighbor. But this weekend was going to be different. Just before I left, I turned on my stereo, placed the speakers lying face down on the floor, and turned up the bass—no more problems with the neighbor.
“I Was Here”
I went to a woman’s cube to ask her a question, and she wasn’t there. I had just sat down in her chair and started writing the question on a post-it note to leave for her when she came around the corner and started going mad. “Don’t sit in my chair! Don’t use my pen! Those are my post-it notes”, etc.
I waited until she went home and wrote “I was here” over and over on a whole stack of post-its. Then I hid them all over her office. They were in every book, every drawer, underneath her keyboard, and every place I could think of. She had been finding them for months.
Texting Sales
I have been getting sale scams and “Do you want a business loan?” texts. They say, “This is Dan, and I’ve wanted to talk to you about your capital. Give me a call if you could use $75,0000 extra dollars.”
So I’ve been texting back, “I’m so glad you messaged me, Dan! I’ve been trying to reach you! I want to talk to you about your relationship with Christ! Have you been spending time with Him every day? Do you need encouragement to do so? Give me a call!” If they can contact me without permission, I can do the same!
Doormat Games
So this all started when I got back from visiting home. I first noticed that my “Home sweet home” mat had been swapped with my neighbor’s super raggedy one. My roommate is very non-confrontational and has done nothing. I switched them back, but they kept switching it.
I was super annoyed but noticed my front door had a gap so the mat could sit right inside, so basically, they couldn’t steal it anymore. Feeling petty, I didn’t switch their trashed mat back and kept it. They noticed and eventually took it back, but now I keep taking it. I mean, they didn’t want it, right? They gave it to me in the first place. After weeks of this today, they came home, and I heard them yell about it and move theirs back again before slamming their door.
“I Can See You”
So, it’s around 8:15 here, right? Well, it’s finally gotten cooler, so my neighbor (single dad with two boys, probably around 8 or 9) let his kids start playing kickball in our foyer. My son and I are having one of our chats, and suddenly, their ball SLAMS into my screen door. Ok, that’s kids. It made a loud sound, so that should spook them, right? Nope, a few seconds later, BAM!
Well, I have a doorbell cam with audio. I got an evil idea. I pulled up my cam app and went to the live feed. They were still kicking it against my door, so I hit the call button and whispered, “I can see you….” They stopped dead for just a heartbeat and then ran like hell into their apartment!!! My kid and I have been DYING for like 10 minutes. Ah, sweet revenge. My son was like, “You just gave those kids nightmares, mom!” Then we high-fived and laughed some more. I’m an awful person.
Entitled Parker
My husband and I went to the theater to see a movie. The parking lot was full to bursting. We had to park in another lot and walk. As we approached the theater, we found a very expensive sports car parked sideways across two spots. We were disgusted! My husband wanted to scare the owner, so he picked up a big chunk of asphalt and carefully placed it on the top of the car, with flattened waxed paper cups underneath so it wouldn’t scratch the paint. Petty, definitely.
The best part: after the movie, we passed the car and found it completely covered in trash! Half-empty sodas, napkins, popcorn buckets, you name it! My husband’s act had inspired everyone else to pile on. I wish we could’ve seen it when the owner came out!
Mistress
Many, many years ago, when my grandma was still married to her second husband (my step-grandpa), he liked to go to the local senior center. There he met a woman and proceeded to start cheating on my grandma with her. Even went so far as to introduce his mistress as his wife and say he and my grandma split. Before you ask, yes, she knew he was married.
My grandma owned her own business selling hearing aids, and she would go to that senior center relatively often to give presentations. My grandma was so angry at this woman that she went to her house with a big bottle of syrup. She spread syrup all over her driveway, garage door, front stoop, front walk, front door, and yard. Then she just got in her car and left.
Obnoxious Driver
On my way to work. On a 30 MPH street that has dealerships on one side and apartment complexes on the other. Always buses and kids, so I keep my speed around 30-35. It’s a two-lane road, and some jackass comes flying up on me and starts riding me. I am going to turn right at the next stoplight to enter my business park.
Turn on my signal and begin to slow. As I approach, the light turns yellow but leaves plenty of time for me to make my right and the jerkwad behind me to make it through the light. Instead, I hit the brakes a little harder than needed and coast a little longer than needed. The light turns red. Have fun sitting through that light! Very petty, but I’m sitting at my desk smiling.
