Private Investigators Disclose Their Most Outrageous Cases

The early 1990s were the years of my brother’s career as a private investigator. A law firm employed him. He hired me as a process server when I was in my early 20s. 

He was handling a particularly nasty divorce case. A Jordanian man was married to an American woman. Upon discovering that she was one of several wives, she was shocked.

She did not want to be a broodmare and wanted to leave the family. Moreover, she was employed by NASA. Anyhow, my brother was assigned to get a briefcase containing financial information from their house. 

Once everyone had left, we went in and grabbed the briefcase. As soon as we reach the attorney’s office, he calls the lady to obtain the combination. His face turns red when he opens it. It contained technical plans for the Apache helicopter from Boeing.

I hear the attorney exclaim, “Oh my goodness!” After that, he shut the briefcase and told us to leave immediately. According to my assumptions, the guy was plotting a serious attack on a plane.

Cruel Findings 

Despite not serving as a detective in a private investigation firm, I was employed by one. One of the saddest cases we encountered was a 24- or 26-year-old woman whose 60-year-old accountant husband was allegedly sleeping with his secretary. 

During one of the client’s “late working nights,” we followed him out to a bar with his sleazy secretary. The two retired to her car after a few drinks and we got some pretty revealing footage. Very classy! Following the presentation of the footage and report to the client, she burst into tears and paid the $1,800 or so invoice.

How could the story have ended any worse? A total of four times, she returned. It was literally a case of him being caught with his pants down each time. We actually sat down with her after about $15k worth of invoices and told her that we were going to stop working with her.

Just taking her money over and over again to show her more and more footage of her husband going at it with this ugly woman felt cruel. Hopefully, she took him for what he was worth.

More Than What Was Needed 

For five years, I worked as a private investigator. Several exciting cases came my way. An incident involved a coach sleeping with one of the female players. One of the benched players hired me for the purpose of documenting the coach sleeping with a starter. A careful arrangement of their meetings was made by the coach and the player.

The process of documenting it took me a while, but eventually, I got what I needed. After a week, the papers reported that the coach had resigned to work in the family business… another week later, my evidence was utilized to break the story. The story did not name me because I had requested not to be mentioned.
