The Island Of Mauritius
Mauritius is major tourist’s destination. Its part of the Island Nations that dot the Indian Ocean. It’s found on the southern coast of the African continent and its part of the Mascarene Islands. The island was first colonized by the Dutch and the French after the first colonizers abandoned it. Then the British joined in and the country was later to gain independence in 1968. The capital is Port Louis. It’s a major attraction due to nice the beaches and coral reefs.
Mauritius is formed around a central plateau. It has a highest peak in an area called Piton de la Petite Riviere Noire that rises above 828 metres. Around the plateau visitors can observe the original crater that’s surrounded by other smaller mountains. Some of the towns that tourists can visit include Rose – Hill, Phoenix, Vacoas, Curepipe, Beau-Bassin and Quatre Bornes. The area’s climate is warm, dry winter from May to November and a hot, wet and humid summer from November to May. However, cyclones have sometimes occurred.
Mauritius is a good location for fishing. It exports a lot fish to oversea markets. Sugarcane farms are so many and the sector accounts for 25% of the export earnings. However tourism has been the major boost. This has contributed to development of lounges and hotels along the warm beaches. Some festivals are celebrated here around here like Diwali, Chinese New Year, Eid Al- Fitr and others. Activities like skiing, surfing, deep sea fishing, windsurfing, yacht cruising are occur here due to the calm cool waters.
