The duo, who played couple Rick Hatchett and his girlfriend, Chelsea, appeared to still be close as season 3 aired on Max from February through April 2025.

The pair followed each other on Instagram and left complimentary comments on one another’s posts.

However, eagle-eyed fans noticed that after the season 3 finale aired on April 6, 2025, showing the doomed couple’s fate, Walton stopped following Aimee Lou. Some speculated he may have blocked her, as her comments disappeared from his posts.

Walton Goggins Mourned Rick and Chelsea’s ‘Love Story’ on ‘The White Lotus’

After the finale episode aired revealing that Rick’s actions caused Chelsea to get shot and killed, and he was subsequently shot and died while carrying her in his arms, Walton took to Instagram to mourn their onscreen fate. It was apparent that the actor took their storyline and how they portrayed it quite seriously.

Along with a series of selfies alongside Aimee Lou during outings in Thailand while filming White Lotus and behind the scenes shots from their happy reunion in the finale, Walton wrote, “Rick + Chelsea. With the heaviest of hearts … To me, ours was a love story. It was only ever a love story, hindered by unresolved, childhood trauma. We all have them … but can we move past them. In the depths of our despair there is always beauty around us.”

“If we can sit with our pain, just sit with it … not react … not be defined by it … It’s there … the love the world is constantly giving in any given moment is there. Always waiting for us to see it … Trust me I know,” he continued.

After thanking White Lotus creator, writer and director Mike White “for your imagination, your tender heart, for the privilege of giving us the opportunity to tell it,” Walton briefly mentioned his onscreen love.

“Thank you, Aimee Lou, for being my partner … a journey I will never forget,” he added before giving major props to his costar Sam Rockwell.

Fans Questioned What Happened to Walton Goggins and Aimee Lou Wood’s Friendship

Aimee shared a photo walking with Walton in Thailand on April 8, 2025, simply writing, “The perfect storm.”

Even though Aimee still followed Walton on Instagram as of April 9, 2025, his comments no longer appeared on her posts.

“Aimee and Walton both be posting pics together and they don’t even follow each other what’s happening?” one person wrote under Aimee’s photo with her costar. Another asked “Why did you guys unfollow each other? ‘I’m too sad for this.” A third wondered, “Why aren’t you and Walton tagging or following each other?”

Aimee watched the finale with fellow cast members in Los Angeles prior to doing a media panel. Walton shared an Instagram Story showing that he viewed it alongside costar Michelle Monaghan, who played Jaclyn Lemon on season 3.

The England native told The Hollywood Reporter that she was disappointed that she was unable to watch the finale alongside the Justified alum, but hinted that it was typical of their characters’ relationship on the series.

“I was sad that Walton wasn’t there because it was something that we did together but also it’s so f–king Rick and Chelsea,” Aimee shared with the outlet on April 7, 2025.

“Like, of course Walton had to watch it alone and of course I had to watch it in the group because there is so much Aimee in Chelsea and so much Walton in Rick,” Aimee added, apparently unaware that her costar watched it with Michelle.

Walton Goggins Became So Much Like Rick While Filming ‘The White Lotus’

During episode 3 of The White Lotus‘ companion podcast, Walton described how he isolated himself and dug into his personal pain to play Rick during the six-month shoot in Thailand.

“Showing up to work every day with 18 people and a green room that’s full of chairs of 18 people that are in a much different place emotionally than I am at the beginning of the story was very difficult. More often than not, my chair is separate. I sit on my own. I do my own thing,” he explained.

“But I just couldn’t, I couldn’t be around them. They didn’t understand why I was there. This guy is isolated … And that wasn’t any fun, you know, to separate yourself from a group in that way. That was really, really challenging,” Walton continued.

The Righteous Gemstones star recalled a day of filming the show’s opening scene on a boat headed to the White Lotus resort, where his behavior pushed Aimee away into wanting to hang out with other costars.

“We were all on this boat, and I just had such anxiety about getting on this boat because there’s nowhere for me to hide. I’m a claustrophobic person by nature, and Rick is a claustrophobic person … And so, I just camped out on the front of this boat. The view was incredible, and I just filled it full of negative energy, so that no one wanted to be around me, right? And there was a moment, like, for real, it’s like just buckets of f–king negativity. Here you go. Like, no one will come up here,” he explained.

“But at one point, Aimee, not being mean or anything, she leaned over and just said, ‘You know, you’re no fun. I want to be with them,’ you know, meaning Patrick [Schwarzenegger] and the other characters, and I was like, ‘Thank you, God. Thank you for saying that, you know, because that’s exactly how I want you to feel.’”

Aimee Lou Wood Was Happy to Let Go of Playing Chelsea

Aimee told The Hollywood Reporter that she was happy to be free of Chelsea after the finale aired, and believes Walton felt the same way about Rick.

“I think both of us are feeling a similar thing today of, ‘OK I can let go of the parts of this character, of Chelsea, that have been holding me back and I can grow up in the way that Chelsea couldn’t.’ And at the same time, all the bits that I love about her, I can take with me,” the Sex Education alum told the publication.

“So, there’s this weird feeling today of rebirth, and I’m sure that Walton feels the same about Rick because it’s like, whatever the f–k was going on in him, that was Rick, and he can let go of it now. Like Chelsea says, ‘You’re free. It’s a new day.’ And it’s true. It feels like today is the first new day that I’ve had in a very long time,” she continued.

“Because this journey has felt so long — and the weekly thing, I love it, but it’s meant that I’m still in it,” Aimee said of how the series rolled out one episode per week over eight weeks. “But now I feel like I’ve been released and it’s sad, but it’s also like, I’m free to be Aimee again.”

Walton and Aimee had a chance to reunite at the 2025 Met Gala but appeared not to take the opportunity.

Walton made his own grand entrance in a unique Thom Browne ensemble at the Met Gala on May 5, 2025. Aimee Lou arrived later with their White Lotus costar Patrick as her date. The duo spoke to Vogue ahead of walking the red carpet, where the two posed for plenty of photos together.

However, no pictures of Aimee and Walton together emerged from the event as of May 6, 2025. Aimee and Patrick were photographed mingling with actresses Joey King and Sarah Snook, as well as designer Tommy Hilfiger.

Aimee Lou Wood Said She ‘Loved’ Working With Walton Goggins

The actress was asked by Entertainment Tonight at the Met Gala if she would be making a surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live when Walton hosted the May 10, 2025, episode.

“I couldn’t say,” she replied before adding, “But also … I’m not doing that.”

“Yeah, it would be fun. I loved working with Walton. It was the best thing ever,” Aimee said of her former White Lotus costar. “He’s going to be incredible doing SNL. It’s the perfect thing for him to do. It’s going to be hilarious. I’m so excited to see it.”

Aimee’s kind comment came days after she and Walton began refollowing each other on Instagram.
