Texas Woman Refused Service By Cashier Who Hates ‘People Like Her’
Catastrophe Strikes
Fiona was in awe of what had just happened to her.
Ringing her up was the cashier’s duty, how could she be so disrespectful to Fiona? Fiona was confident in herself that she was a good person.
The cashier thought differently. All because of what Fiona was wearing, today would be the day she was singled out.
Service Refusal
This day she hit what felt like an all-time-low, being denied service at her local grocery store.
If she was unable to buy staple items, how would she feed her baby?
The manager would surely be able to resolve this, she thought. She asked for him, but was once again refused by the cashier. She knew that drastic measures were needed to sort things out.
Calling For Backup
Now grasping the reason behind this prejudice, Fiona whipped out her phone to dial whom she knew best.
“Calling your husband? He’s not going to be able to help you.” snarked the cashier.
If only the cashier knew who Fiona’s husband was. He would rain down on the parade of whoever was responsible.
All This Over A Shirt
After this whole ordeal, Fiona was still in disbelief that all this had happened over the text on her shirt.
She understood the message and firmly believed in it’s cause – but some people just prefer to spread hate.
She was understanding as to why, but wished that people wouldn’t misjudge her. Her message was in good faith.
Fiona, Loving Mother
If you were to pass Fiona in the grocery store, you’d think nothing of her, just a normal looking mother. This couldn’t be further from the truth, Fiona had a lot more to her than appearances would suggest.
Her big shot husband’s job was key in shaping Fiona into who she was.
But she never showed that part. There would be people who couldn’t understand why she’d marry that kind of person.
Skeletons In The Closet
Because of the nature of Fiona’s husband’s job, she was always the one to go to the store and buying staples – to keep her family fed.
Mark, Fiona’s son, was a toddler at the time, in the midst of his tantrum phase.
Because of his little temper, he wouldn’t go along to the grocery store. And James, her 43 year old husband, had a secret few knew about.
Misleading Others
When Fiona’s friends asked to meet her husband, they were always met with excuses.
Her go-to excuse was his long work hours, while although being true, wasn’t the true reason behind Fiona not wanted them to meet him.
She had a horrible feeling that not everyone would embrace him. She could lose friendships and kick up dirt.
Unconditional Love
Regardless of what others’ thoughts on him were, Fiona loved him with all her heart.
She never saw any problems with the kind of person he was, in fact she adored him all the more for it.
His job afforded them a comfortable income between them. Who was she to complain when the majority of their money came from his earnings?
Disapproval
Not everyone viewed James in the same light as Fiona.
With what was going on on the news, she was constantly seeing his colleagues being criticized. James had a very low public opinion.
Fiona knew that it was all lies. But she could have never thought just who her husband was would make people hate her so much.
Outfit Of The Day
One Saturday morning, just like any other, she got up and got ready to go out.
Since she would only be running errands, she didn’t put any particular thought into her clothing. A plain t-shirt and jeans would be more than suitable.
She had no idea that when she left her house, her shirt would cause people to perceive her so negatively.
Simple Ingredients
Fiona took some simple ingredients from the shelves that would mean that she could make dinner for the next week.
She loved cooking for her infant son and her husband after he got home from work.
She approached the till and smiled at the woman behind the counter. She smiled back initially, but her pleasant demeanor suddenly dropped into a nasty scowl. What happened?
A Drastic Change
The cashier had gone from pleasant to vicious in an instant.
Fiona had no idea what caused this drastic change, but she had no idea what kind of emotional rollercoaster she was on.
She started unpacking her trolley and continued smiling. She gave the cashier the benefit of the doubt. Everyone has a bad day from time to time, and it shouldn’t be held against them. But this cashier was about to make her life very difficult.
“Stop”
Fiona had only gotten three of her essentials unloaded onto the counter before the scowling cashier abruptly said, “Stop! I’m not going to serve you today, or any day of the week for that matter.”
“What?” A confused Fiona asked, taken aback by what the cashier had said.
“You heard me. I’m not serving you.”
What Was The Problem?
“What’s the problem?” A concerned Fiona asked.
She didn’t like confrontation and was nice enough to assume the best intentions from the cashier. But she was wrong if she thought there was any room for pleasantries.
“People like you make me sick.” The cashier blurted out. Fiona could see tears in her eyes. What had she done to upset this cashier so much?
Her Shirt
“Your shirt, it’s so offensive.” She said through sobs. Fiona didn’t think much of it when she put it on. Was it really that offensive? But she hadn’t seen the anger and insensitivity that the cashier would show next.
Fiona slowly felt a wave of rising anger as she understood what was going on. She wasn’t the one being offensive. It was the cashier for being ignorant and insensitive towards the message on her shirt – a message that supported her husband.
