1. Took pictures of myself for before and after comparisons
No one likes to think of themselves as fat, even if they know they are overweight, but I discovered recognizing your fat is a must! I looked in the mirror at myself, studied the flabby love handles hanging over my waistline, and I announced it as what it was: FAT.
I was convinced that this recognition and honesty with myself was the first step to help me lose weight by developing the will power I would need to correct the way I look.
But I went one step further. I took a photo of myself… fat, and all.
I studied that photo. Made sure I was discontented. I let that be my motivation for sticking to my diet.
2. Kept a daily journal to note negative triggers that interfered with losing weight
To help me lose weight, every day I would not only write down what foods I ate and the quantity, but I would note how hungry I was before eating and my emotional state.
By doing this daily, I became more aware of my eating habits. It allowed me to see poor behaviors and negative emotions that set me off to overeat.
I reviewed the portion sizes of the foods I ate, and I analyzed my behavioral patterns that I could change to be more healthy.
A food diary was one of my key resources to help me lose weight.
3. Ate fruits and vegetables every day, a minimum of 5 servings daily
I knew that none of my techniques would help me lose weight if I didn’t eat properly. This meant I ate fresh fruits and vegetables every day, at least 5 servings.
The first benefit I found of eating a lot of fruits and veggies is that they are low in calories.
The second benefit is that they are so healthy for you, chock full of vitamins, but also have cancer-fighting antioxidants and a great natural source of fiber.
The third benefit I discovered was that because of all the fiber they contained, they filled up my tummy so that I felt full more quickly. This would help me lose weight since I didn’t have to suffer through a lot of hunger pangs.
Now you know the three required elements that I used to help me lose weight. And you can do it, too.
First, taking pictures of yourself for before and after comparisons. Second, keep a daily journal to note negative triggers that interfere with losing weight.
