Chunky BBQ Sauce recipe for Slimming World

Spoiler alert: you don’t have to just have this chunky BBQ sauce at barbecues!

This recipe for a chunky BBQ sauce has been a winner for me at so many get-togethers with family and friends. In fact, I usually have people begging to know what’s in it and how difficult it is to make. Of course, you can stick to a shop-bought version, but it is likely much higher in calories and additives as well as more expensive.

How this sauce is made

A really simple sauce to make using tinned chopped tomatoes, fresh red onion, Henderson’s Relish, balsamic vinegar, garlic, sweetener and mustard powder, this chunky BBQ sauce can be enjoyed in a number of ways.

Firstly, I really enjoy it as a dip with Pringles (guilty pleasure!), lightly salted tortilla chips, cucumber sticks, carrot batons and slices of yellow or red pepper. However, I do also enjoy it, as the name suggests, with a barbecue.

As you know, I’m a veggie and have been most of my life, so dipping a Quorn sausage (other brands are available) into it adds a luscious depth of flavour. My family are also big fans of Hunter’s chicken, which you can use this sauce for. If you have fussy eaters, it does also blend nicely, too.

What is Henderson’s Relish?

Most Northerners won’t need to ask that question, but for everyone else, Henderson’s Relish is a table sauce that has been produced in Sheffield since the 19th century. Similar to Worcestershire sauce, this sauce is versatile and a great addition to many dishes, including spaghetti Bolognese, lasagne, winter casseroles, hearty stews and even cheese on toast. It is both Vegan and gluten-free, so ticks a lot of boxes as well as being tasty. Bonus points!
