After a long struggle with obesity, I decided to have the Orbera Gastric Balloon inserted. This is a quick non-invasive weight loss procedure done in an outpatient setting. The gastric balloon stays in place for six months and is then retrieved by your surgeon. Due to complications, mine was retrieved at seven weeks. Although, I really wanted to keep in, I just couldn’t tough it out much longer. However, I was happy to have lost thirty five pounds, but there’s a story to be told. This book offers helpful tips to anyone considering or currently have the Orbera gastric balloon. It is in no way a professional guide, but a snapshot of my personal experience. I personally feel that we don’t have enough transparent stories from real people because this option is a fairly new weight loss option in the United States. Although, I did read some of the published research, it didn’t tell the story from a real person navigating life with the balloon. In addition, I didn’t see the stories of those, like me, who were dealing with complications and seemingly normal side effects. It is my hope that my tips will empower you with a little more information so that you can make an informed decision or serve as a great support person.
