A New Life

Julia Hanson had moved to Indiana to start a new life far away from her parents. She was just like any other woman her age, trying to live her best life.

Solving The Problem

What better way to solve the problem than to adopt her first pet? While growing up, she had a sheepdog that she adored.

She was an adult now, and she thought it was a good idea to adopt a pet of her own.

The tag on his cage said “Bronx” and she knew that she just had to have him.

She felt a strange connection to him and she knew that she had to save him and give him a loving home.

She got an adoption form from reception and filled it out, sealing the seal. She was hoping they would let her adopt him the very next day. She had no idea what her new pet was hiding.

Taking Him Home

Just two days after, Julia returned to the shelter with the filled-out and approved adoption papers.

She leashed her new pet and took him home. She noticed that the staff seemed to look at her weirdly. Did they know something that she didn’t?

She shook it off and headed home. She’d already gotten a bag of dog food and a water bowl, but she hadn’t managed to find the perfect dog bed just yet. She would regret this.

Happier Than Ever

Over the course of the next few days, she did everything in her power to ensure that Bronx settled into his new home. She was relieved to have the company for a change.

She wasn’t feeling all that lonely anymore, but she had no idea what was really going on.

After just a week, she could tell that he was much happier than before. The only problem was that he was sleeping on the floor each night.

Sleeping Arrangements

It was obvious that he wasn’t sleeping well on the floor at all. In the course of a week, he seemed to grow very attached to Julia, never leaving her side.

She had laid out blankets for him to sleep on, but she could tell that he was not happy with this arrangement.

But when she woke up one morning, she realized that there was something strange in her bed. She felt fur against her skin and quickly realized what it was.

Queen-Sized Bed

She realized that Bronx preferred sleeping next to her, on her bed. She had a queen-sized bed, which meant that there was more than enough space for the two of them.

All she had to do was make sure that her pooch was groomed regularly, as well as change her sheets daily.

This might seem like a lot of work, but she thought it was worth it for his comfort.

A Strange Habit Starts

Everything was going well at first, but after a month or so of this, her dog picked up a peculiar habit.

When Julia started waking up, instead of her dog being by her side, he was actually sitting on the floor and staring at the bed.

She didn’t pay much attention to the habit at first. But after a few days of the exact same behavior, she started to feel uneasy. What was he staring at?

Staring At Her Bed

Julia got out of bed and tried to snap Bronx out of it, but he was as if he was in some kind of trance.

He was watching the bed and wouldn’t take his gaze away. She needed to find out what he was so fixated on.

She decided that the only way to find out would be to set up cameras to figure out what he was doing. But she wouldn’t know how harrowing the truth is.

Setting Up The Cameras

Julia bought some cameras from her local security shop and set them up in her bedroom.

She knew that she’d find out what he was doing in the middle of the night.

She went to bed, expecting it to be nothing. Perhaps he was just overheated in the middle of the night and preferred lying on the cool floor instead. Either way, she was about to find out.

Watching The Footage Back

Julia went to sleep with the cameras ready to record. She slept soundly that night, knowing she’d soon find out what was going on with her new dog.

The next morning, she woke up early before work and saw that Bronx was doing the exact same thing.

She turned on her laptop, but once she saw what he was doing, there was no going back.

She looked at the monitor on her laptop and started fast-forwarding the recording. She watched as, at about 4:00 AM, Bronx got up off of the bed and sat on the floor.

After about 30 minutes, he turned around and stared at her bed.

For hours, he just stared straight ahead. It felt like something out of a horror movie. What was going on?

Julia couldn’t understand what was going on. The only other information she could gather from the recording was that her dog was staring at her for a lot longer than she thought.

But what was her dog doing?

She knew she had to look closer at the recording to try and figure things out. Or maybe she needed advice from a professional?

Deciding To Take Him To A Vet

Julia couldn’t figure out anything else from the recording. She decided to take it to a professional.

She called up a vet and made an appointment to go see him.

The next day, she made sure the appointment was still on and made her way to the vet. But she had no idea what they would have to say once he saw Bronx.

The Vet’s Opinion

Julia arrived at the vet with her dog by her side and was ready to finally find out what was going on. She walked into the vet’s office and put Bronx on the exam table.

The vet walked in and greeted her before getting to work. He examined Bronx and even watched the recording that Julia had not transferred on her phone.

That’s when he brought up an important concern.

His Concerns

After a thorough examination and a look at the recording, the vet asked her exactly when she got Bronx and from where.

All of the questions made her a little uneasy. What was he really getting at?

He told her that he wanted to run a few tests just to test his theory. But it would take a week, and there was nothing they could do to make it quicker.

Doing The Tests

Julia consented to the tests and made her way home once they were done. Bronx wasn’t used to being at a vet and made things more difficult than they had to be.

But in the end, all of the tests on him were done, and now all she had to do was wait a week until the results would come back.

Unfortunately, it would be a difficult week waiting for the truth.

Strange Symptoms

Only a day after getting back from the vet, Julia thought that the week would be easy to breeze through. But the next morning, when she woke up, she felt a strange feeling on her hands.

It was the strangest thing she’d ever experienced. They were red and itchy.

She got up and took some allergy pills, but she had no idea what kind of danger she was really in.

Getting Worse

Throughout the day, her hands started to feel a bit better, so she didn’t think anything of it. She went to bed that night, assuming that she would feel even better in the morning.

But the next day, when she woke up. It seemed that her condition was only worse.

Her hands were starting to swell up, and she couldn’t properly close her hands. She knew she was in trouble.

Watching The New Footage

Julia realized that her camera was still recording and decided to watch the footage once again. Maybe there would be something different this time that would explain her new condition.

She watched the footage back and noticed something different from the previous time.

Bronx was doing something new. He was licking her while she slept. But why was he doing this?

Affection?

Was he doing it out of affection? Julia couldn’t wrap her head around why on earth her new dog would lick her while she slept. And why wasn’t she waking up?

No matter what the explanation was, she was sure her hands had something to do with the licking.

She would have to get to the bottom of things before it was too late.

The Doctor

Julia decided to go to the doctor the next day. Her condition was only getting worse, and she was starting to worry.

She got out of work early to get to her appointment to find out what was wrong with her.

She made her way to the doctor’s office and sat down in the examination room. But just like the vet, her doctor would have concerns.

The Examination

The doctor did a thorough examination of her and specifically tried figuring out what was going on with her hands.

After a few minutes of giving her the up and down, he had a shocked look on his face.

He frowned before spilling the news. He clearly had something alarming to tell her. But it wouldn’t be what she thought.

Had No Idea

The doctor was frowning, not because he had grim news to give her but rather because he was frustrated.

He had to admit to her that he had no idea what her symptoms meant. He told her it could be an infection, but he couldn’t be sure.

That’s when Julia decided that it was worth a shot at showing him what she had seen on her phone. But once she did, there was no going back.

Showing Him The Footage

She showed the doctor the video of Bronx licking her hands while she slept. After staring at it, the doctor had a new expression on his face. And it wasn’t one of frustration this time.

It seemed as if he was deeply concerned about what he had just seen. He told Julia that she had to get her dog checked immediately.

If his concerns were right, she would be in a lot of trouble.

Taking Precautions

Julia was scared. She told him that she was waiting for his test results from the vet to come back. She was supposed to receive news from the vet the very next day.

The doctor told her that it couldn’t come soon enough.

He gave her lots of medication to help with the swelling but told her it was very important that she came back as soon as she got the results.

The Results

Julia was more than worried now. The doctor hadn’t told her exactly what was going on. But it seemed as if it was a case of life or death.
